On Saturday 15th May 2010 I set off in my newly acquired wayfarer 'Viper' to sail around mainland Britain, except for the fact that I intend to cut through the Caledonian Canal which cuts off the top of Scotland which is a bit wild.
The two charities that I am hoping you will support, in supporting me, are the RNLI and Shining Life. The RNLI provides the rescue service that us seafarers know is always there should we get into difficulties. They risk their lives to save ours. I am hoping not to need them. Shining Life Children's Trust runs projects in Sri Lanka supporting disadvantaged children and families.
The trip is not single handed and I have in the region of forty willing crew members and people on the end of telephones helping me out. And lots of people offering accommodation whether it be their own or their neighbours' or someone they used to work with once upon a time.
Anyway – it has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster to get this far, thanks to everyone who has supported this plan....I'm sure I will be thanking you all a lot more.....
Will write more soon. And post an itinery which is what everyone is after...
Feel free to call or email at any time....
